Note: Harry Simpson was a Waggon Builder at the LNER Plant Works. Later he a nd Sarah oped a "Bird Shop" on Hexthorpe Road and Harry bred budges an d canaries in avaries in the front bedroom. He won lots of prizes but he was a rather eccentric man. In the shop the sold pet food and othe r items like dog baskets and leads. Not much of the food was pre-packe d. It came in sacks and as kids we used to rifle through the sacks of parrot food and pinch the peanuts/ monkey nuts and eat them. When we w ent to the shop a bell rang on the door and we had to shout "Its onl y me" because Anntie got cross if she came throuhgh from the back Kitc hen to find that it wasn't a customer.
