Note: During a visit to the UK by Edward Barker's sister and nephew who visi t ed Aunt Rose and Uncle Mat (Foster) in 1983 and 1985.
Acording to Edward Barker " While in England after talking with Rose a nd M att (Foster) my nephew wrote saying that my Mother's grandfather and grand mother ( Matthew Flanaghan and Sarah McFadden) came from a s mall coastal t own on the West side of Southern Ireland (could this b e Westmeath or Rosco mmon?). He stated that my Mothers grandfather tra veled to California duri ng the 1849 Gold Rush and then returned to Ir eland and married Miss McFadd en. I have to assume this is terribly wr ong since Matthew Flanagan would h ave been only 9 years of age diggin g gold ! Perhaps my nephew and Aunt Ro se (Foster) had their tea spike d a wee bit."
As a footnote was this true and did Matthew Flanagan actually go to th e US .

At the time of the marriage of his daughter Sarah Jane, Matthew's occu pati on was listed as Labouer.

From the 1901 Census for 37 Palmerson Street, Thornaby, Yorkshire, Eng lan d. Thomas Flanaghan, son, single, 19, Labourer, worker, born Thorn aby-on-T ees, North Yorkshire, England.

From the 1920 Philadelphia Census Thomas Flanagan immigrated in 1904 w i th the McGuires and that he was living with them in 1920. Thomas wa s 35 ye ars old with his sons born in Pennselvania aged 7 and 4 years at time of t he Census.

On Tom's marriage license application of the 5 April 1911 his address w as 2006 Bainbridge Street, Philadelphia and on the 1910 census show s Jul ia & John as living at 2051 Bainbridge Street.
I am puzzled about Tom the 1910 and 1920 census shows him as living wi th t he McGuires and yet in 1911 he is shown as living on Bainbridge S t. Funni er yet Annie's address is also shown as 2006 Bainbridge St. o n the marria ge licence.
